The Oakland Museum of California recently announced the posting of
the Museum Curatorial Specialist position in its Natural Sciences
Department. Many of you may recall this position by its previous
incumbent, Paul Matzner, who retired from the Museum earlier this
year after 24 years with the California Library of Natural Sounds
(CLNS). This position oversees the CLNS collection and works closely
with the Nature Sounds Society; manages access and use of the
collection's resources; directs the production of audio programs
based on the collection materials and handles all rights and
reproduction aspects; catalogs existing recordings and new additions;
and ensures proper care and storage of the collection. Additionally,
this position assists the Curator and his staff with research or
special assignments; greets museum visitors, responds to patron
inquiries, performs financial and catalog recordkeeping and performs
other duties as assigned.
The minimum requirements for the position are education and
experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field and
twp years of experience conducting research, working in sound
production and/r recording, writing and assisting the public in a
museum, educational or administrative field. Coursework in sound
production or recording is high desired.
This is a part-time, permanent position at 30 hours per week, $20.77 -
$25.50 and is a civil service status position. Closing date for
