the short answer: for standard minidisc, there are a couple of tricks to try, and a couple of companies you can turn to for professional help. One such company is EDL, www.esdl.co.uk for Hi-MD, there is no hope of recovering data at present. Sony encrypts the data files on the Hi-MD, and hides the encryption key. There's always a chance that someone will reverse-engineer the software necessary to decode a Hi-MD disc. Or maybe Sony will open the corporate kimono enough to license its coding technology to another company. So don't throw away your damaged Hi-MD discs. --oryoki |
