what's really amazing is the way the groups move and shift shape - it looks=

positively unreal.  i've seen starling formations in the uk (perhaps not as=

big as those pictured) and seen video footage that at first had me convince=

it was digitally manipulated.  the sound is also impressive - the flocks in=

the air is one thing, but they also tend to gather in groups of trees and
make a truly unholy racket.  i'm sure someone here must have recorded that.=

apparently in limoges, france, in a small park by the train station, they
regularly have such a problem with the noise that the city started driving=

through the park in a truck with loudspeakers on the roof playing recording=
s
of predators (not sure what) to try to scare the starlings off.  didn't wor=
k
though...

i've heard recordings of starling gatherings recorded in the uk by chris
watson - i believe theyd taken refuge in the rafters of an abandonned
warehouse in brighton, thousands of them, again making an immense noise...
