I work at teaching sound for theatre and find todays student assumes they 'know how things work' without having to read the manual. They want instant knowledge without learning and forget that experience teaches understanding in itself. Technology moves so fast that us older grumpies might be forgiven for lagging behind but I find that the instruction book can make very good reading especially where the black art of handling digital information is concerned. Each new product seems to come with a new set of meanings to previously understood words, invented by those 'boys-in-suits' I realise I have probably trained over the years. I try my best to keep up to date but its a struggle. Thank you to all who contribute such easily understood demystification of current technologies to this site, keep it coming, it certainly keeps me entertained. BigRog Roger Norwood |
