There are still some details to be determined, but those of you who
have archives of MD recordings you've been wanting to upload
digitally, it looks like the MZ-RH1 HiMD recorder/player will do this
and convert them to 44.1K/16 .wav format at the same time, at USB 2.0
speed. Its Mac and PC compatible. Fingers are crossed that the manual
gain issue is addressed and they've retained the mic pre noise and
gain performance of the first models.

Imagine, grab an old MD recording and transfer the whole thing
digitally with Sonicstage creating separate files for all of your
tracks and converting the ATRAC into .wav ready to be loaded into
your waveform editor. This might be worth ~$300 to some of us even if
we don't use it at all as a recorder. Rob D.

here's the news item.
