Thanks, Mark. Re comments on bass, I should have said that for
the Neumann - which has no bass roll-off filter - I was using the
75 Hz roll-off on the Portadisc. For the 3032 I was using its
onboard 80 Hz roll-off filter. Possibly the different profiles or other
characteristics of the roll-off filters have their effect. From my
limited experience the 3032 is very sensitive to low frequencies
and the filter is much better kept on, especially outdoors. In the
voice and piano recordings we have it on for the traffic and
planes on their descent to London Heathrow.

I'm very pleased with the results with the NT1A and 3032 - as you
say for the TLM/3032, almost indistinguishable. I have a
suspicion that the two cheaper mics struggle slightly with high
loud notes, unlike the TLM 103, but am going to refrain from
further comment until I've had them outside doing dawn
choruses. Also until I have a better pair of headphones!! My big
preoccupation at the moment is finding mics that represent the
high-pitched squeaky/screechy birds - like our European Robin,
or the Wren or Chaffinch - smoothly and fully. An early test with
the NT1A on a robin suggests it does that quite well. But what a
crazy mic to lug around the countryside!!

Any ideas for other such mics? Preferably omnis.
