For extreme portability and accuracy I love my Etymotic ER4's.

Same mass as ear buds, high isolation, most accurate (flat, revealing)
phones I've used. I'm in the process of getting custom ear molds made
for them.

Cons: the ear-canal style is not for everyone, the cables are
microphonic, the isolation can be *too great* for some circumstances,
and they're not easy to take on/off.
