Condom tests underwater?

Subject: Condom tests underwater?

Just to add to this thread, has anyone tried waterproofing a mic in a condo=
m and recording underwater sounds such as fish/dolphins etc?

Try explaining it to your CFO! :)

I've found condoms to work very well against damaging
elements (such as water, mud, etc.) and don't find
much signal loss at all (definately not enough to
warrant putting an expensive mic in a dangerous
situation without protection). I've never noticed
condoms doing much against wind as you'll have to get
a very tight fit to keep the condom from sliding
around and making noise against the the body of the
mic. Rubber bands can help keep it attached but
condoms seem to work best when the mic is in a static
position.

I've even gone so far so as completely wrap a mic in a
condom, zip tie the whole thing up and drop it in a
body of water. I'm damn careful about it but so far no
mics lost doing this.
