Brian and Bill:

First, thanks!

I was wondering about the relative toxicity of components in different
battery chemistries and the observation that the efficiency with which
they can be recycled should be considered is a great one --- and crucial
to my deliberations. Amazing how hard it is to know what's the right
thing to do!

It also looks like I'm going to try to disassamble the ecocharge batter
to (at least) recoved the connectors. I which case, putting the top on a
new battery might work as well. So if the top comes off, I'll search for
a replacement that matches the specs on the side of what I have 6V, 7.2
Ah, 20Hr and in the same size. What is the 20Hr parameter? Are all
chargers for lead-acid batteries the same or do I have to worry about
being compatible with the ecocharge charger. (It seems like a good one
that charges for a while and then "floats" to, I take it, maintain the
charge but not overcharge).

The offer to actually do the chores, Brian, is incredibly generous. I
appreciate it greatly and might end up taking you up on it when I get
desperate. Until then, I'm going to try and make this a learning
experience; a good thing since, as you can tell, I've got LOTS to learn!

Thanks again for all the ideas!

Steve P
