Just yesterday I made my first field recordings with a 722 connected
to a NT1A pair. I worked with temperature well below zero degrees and
everything worked well. I set the two mics vertical, spaced 17cm and
with the frontal faces (those with the gold dot) angled 90degrees.
Very few distant birds were calling and thus I mostly recorded
environmental noises (and many airplanes). The sound I got was rich
and hiss-free (with 70dB gain). Because of the high gain I used a
tripod, recorded to CF only, and I moved 10 meters away to avoid
recording my own noises). Distant people talking and moving in front
of the mics were well focused, without the "hole in the middle",
though, a narrower angle could be preferable to focus more on the
frontal direction.
There are not specific settings for the NT1As, though. I just set 96K
sampling rate, 24bits resolution, P48 on, Limiter ON, High Gain Range
(up to 70dB of mic gain but if you record loud subjects you can
prefer the Low Gain setting), HP filter ON (with the softest setting).
This was my first trial. Any comment will be appreciated!
