Hi Ariadne--
Good idea to practice moving quickly through the menu into manual
record before heading into the field. Maybe also make some mental
notes about record levels that seem to work well and the conditions.
I've not experienced any HiMD problems due to humidity as yet. A
small leather or canvas pouch on your belt is handy and it can also
absorb the faint clicking sounds the recorder makes when the writing
to disk. I've recorded many 92 minutes disks on one AA rechargeable
NiMH battery, but lately I've been powering mine with a 2-"D" NiMH
cell battery sled so I can leave it in record-pause, monitor
continuously and record 3 or 4 disks without worrying about the power
going out. You'll get even better performance using regular alkaline
batteries. 2 "C" cells would last a long time too. The 3 volt
external jack accepts a O.D.: 2.35mm I.D.: 0.7mm DC Power Plug.

Last time I looked, Radio Shack didn't sell this plug separately but
their type "A" adapter plug fits and can be soldered/made to do the
job.
The + positive supply goes to the middle connector. If you can
solder, its a very simple project. Hope you get all the answers
you're after and have a productive trip! Rob D.
