Hi, Remember West Nile Virus? I heard it killed millions of birds, and hit the owls pretty heavy throughout the Eastern USA. Another killer of owls is tha= t people put poison out to kill mice and rats. This poison ends up higher in the food chain, killing owls and other raptors. I am not to sure about the excessive light theory. I heard coyotes prefer 1/4 moons to hunt. I hear Eastern Screech Owls now and then all over, but their population has dropped over the past decades. They used to be very common. Well, everythin= g seemed more common years ago. Some people think it is the change in environment where I live from fields to more tree cover. Maybe other birds became more dominate? Rural sprawl issues at hand to I am sure. Bruce www.natureguystudio.com |
