Hi Estelle--
I believe "transfer" is the more common term used for the preferred 
process that does not change the data. The S/PDIF coax to optical 
adapter should work fine.  Select your preferred file type, like 
".wav" or  .AIF" in Sonar to preserve your field format (44.1K or 48K 
/ 16 bit).  Rob D.
