I saw someone take the Cornell workshop this year using a laptop in a
backpack. Yes, it can be done. There is still the worry about a quiet
front-end and batteries to power the rig. There is no difference in sound
quality and it is already a .wav and on your computer ready for post or
burning to a cd.

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Recording to a laptop with Pro Tools Mbox
Does anyone record in the field using a laptop?
Are there reasons not to do so?
I'm wondering why I would spend 1-2k on a field recorder when I could get a
laptop with a large hard drive and Pro Tools or something like it and recor=
d
in 24 bit.
Thank you,
Jake R.
