Hi Stan, fun noise!  Is the almost horn-like quality of the sound
natural, or did that come as a result of filtering (I get really
weird effects of filtering out background noise with software
sometimes).  'Cause if whatever made that sound actually sounded
like that to your ear, I can say with a fair degree of certainty
that it wasn't a native North American bird of any kind.

But as to what it was?  It almost sounds like a much lower pitched
version of some elk bugles, but that really doesn't make any sense
for Illinois.
