This is how I compare noise:
I make two recordings with the same reference. Then I paste in about 2-3
seconds of one of the recordings into the other recording. Listening to
this file, hearing one noise 2-3 sec and then next noise for 2-3 sec is in=
my ears the best way to compare.
Even such a comparison can be tricky. With my Beyer headphones I get one
mic a little noisier than the other (noisier =3D more audible) while I get=
the reverse result when using my loudspeakers.
The brain can easily get "set" at a judgement. It learns a certain noise
and adds the subjective value "noisiest" to this noise character. Therefore=
one has to test ones hearing many times, starting the replay of the file
without knowing where, so that one doesn't know which mic / amp that one is=
listening to. One also has to put the headphones the other way.
