I'm still not convinced that we talk about the same thing....?

1/ Suppose that you have a mic with a self noise of 14 db(A) and a output
of 10 mV/Pa.

Then you don't need much gain on the NH900 and the noise you will hear is
the 14 db(A) noise of the microphone. Fine!

2/ Suppose that you have a mic with a self noise of 14 db(A) and a output
of 1 mV/Pa. 10 times lower output!

Then you will need 10 times more gain on the NH900 and it is quite possible=

that all noise you will hear comes from the NH900 mic amp.

If you _are_ saying this, I was
trying to understand how you applied what we know about the NH900 pre
to come up with the reference of 14dBA when making nature recordings
with low noise mics and HiMD recorders, that is. :-) Rob D.

Hmm. The 14 db(A) that I selected in my example was just more or less
random. I think it popped up in my mind because it is the lowest noise
figure you usually get with electrets.

I mean - the db(A) self noise has importance as soon as it is the
microphone which creates the audible noise.
But if it is the recorder input which creates the noise, then the db(A) of=

the microphone is totally unimportant.

Klas.
