An alternative to Greg Clark's aluminum foil deterrent is a product called
"Squirrel Away" that is a red (pepper?) powder, often sold in conjunction
with bird food, which can be sprinkled on sunflower seeds, etc., to make
it unattractive to rodents such as squirrels (and porcupines). Dust your
cables with this powder, being careful not to inhale it or get it in your
eyes.

I have found this treatment effective also for tent stays when camping in
porcupine country, as well as for sprinkling around your vehicle to protect
it from those voracious rodents while parked overnight at the trailhead.

Good recording,
                              Randy
