Concert taper guru Doug Oade had developed two modifications ("basic" and "advanced") to the Marantz PMD660 that address the recorder's noisy pre-amp section. Follow the link below to download files that compare his mods with the stock machine. http://tinyurl.com/9q8dk The first two are FLAC files of Georgia night sounds. The third is a WAV file comparing the sound recorded by the three versions of the PMD660 with no mic attached and the preamp volume turned all the way up.
