This is a call for surveyors for a "Soundscape Survey" at Muir Woods 
National Monument in Marin County.  Help the National Parks perform 
an important survey of natural quiet!

Description:

A survey is being conducted at Muir Woods to identify representative 
sounds and to recognize the characteristics of those sounds that 
detract from the visitor experience.  The survey is part of the 
National Park Service (NPS) efforts to understand and document the 
importance of natural quiet and the effect of different sound 
intrusions pursuant to federal directives that require NPS to 
preserve and/or restore natural quiet.   Surveyors at three nodal 
points will approach visitors and ask them to participate in the 
survey exercise, and after receiving consent, conduct the exercise.  
Surveyors are expected to complete a minimum of 5 survey instruments 
per hour.

Period of Employment:  

July 19-31.  Schedules of 8 hours/day with an hour lunch break and 
relief breaks.  Some partial days -- morning or afternoon -- may be 
available.  Some Friday, Saturday and Sunday shifts are available. 
Surveyors are expected to take 3 consecutive days where shifts are 
available.

Salary: $15/hour.

Training:  a paid training period of 2 hours will be required for all 
surveyors

Essential Functions:

-Ability to work outdoors in heat/sun, fog/cool and slightly dusty 
environments
-Sufficient mobility to engage, place, and instruct survey respondents
-Oral communication skills sufficient to engage and enthuse 
respondents, ability to provide instruction and guidance resulting in 
a satisfactorily completed survey instrument

Qualifications:

- outgoing personality - ability to engage visitors for survey

        - excellent communication skills
        - interest in outdoors and parks 
        - good stamina and energy
