Greetings all: This discussion reminded me of a piece on National Public Radio which happened to highlight a bird I'd observed personally. The NBR piece describes an individual white-throated sparrow in New York City's central park that produced a good mimicry of black-throated green warbler. This bird overwintered in the park for several years. Iwas lucky enough to work nearby and got to hear it reliably from the same location over the course of a several seasons. It was always electrifying to hear a 'black-throated green warbler' in late winter. Stranger still to witness the song coming from a white- throated sparrow NPR link: http://www.npr.org/programs/atc/features/2001/apr/010409.birds.html ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
