I am sorry you feel this way David, as I said I never wanted to offend
anyone here, most of all I wanted Doug and Jim to get a good rest from
moderating this fine group of people. We are so diverse here and recordists
come from all over the world, not just here in America but from all corners
of the globe. It is difficult to say the least moderating this large group.
I answer many personal e-mails regarding posts from people and it is very
time consuming. I am not going to be everyone's cup of tea, that is for
sure, Doug and Jim also had there fair share of criticism. Let us stay on
track here, I would have appreciated a personal e-mail from you regarding
your displeasure of my posts and comments, I for sure would not have
answered back this way like some kind of poll to shoot the moderator :(
Your ending question is really not for this group, I do not want to see
fellow recordists give a vote in an open forum like this.
Please let us get back to normal here. You have my assurance that I WILL
keep quiet. If anyone else has an opinion this way, direct it at me
personally, please.

Subject: Immoderate moderators(was Re: [Nature Recordists] recording owl
vocalizations)
Dear fellow listeners,
I tried just letting go of this, to no avail. I am one who has
benefited fabulously from Naturerecordists, and I feel the synergy
available here comes from a deep mutual respect.
I suppose I am being petty to say that our moderator's wildly
offensive/defensive comment "I have to remember where I live; I
forgot you don't know humour over here ..." particularly sticks in
my craw. I've always felt that if others didn't think what I said
was funny, I should first look to myself.
Yes, Martyn, in this (what I consider) honorary position as
moderator you, as you put it, "will have to learn to shut up
somehow". If you find it too difficult to learn from Doug or Jim's
model of moderation (e.g., ensuring brain is engaged before setting
fingers to keyboard, entering as moderator only when essential,
never seeking to offend any element of this special-interest group),
perhaps someone else should take it. The way it has been going, you
risk losing friends and respect within this group, though you share
many real heartfelt concerns for the Earth that many of us are very
familiar with.
Now to the group--if there is consensus that our interests would
best be served by giving the moderator a break, how would we go
about doing this?
With the best Aloha I can manage,
David
