>Good luck,

I too use the Microsoft beta, plus the XP built-in firewall, plus Adaware,
plus Spybot S&D on all my XP computers. My anti-virus is Grisoft AVG.

BTW the trojan re-dialer virus I mentioned last month was new to Grisoft,
so I sent it to them, packaged encrypted in a ZIP file. They thanked me,
and their updates now detect it - but too late to save us from the ATT
charge of $ 2400, which almost took hiring a lawyer to get reduced!

But my jury is still out on Service Pack 2, and especially its automatic
updates. So far, two computers have been made non-functional by these
updates - one the registry was blown (reboots every 30 seconds until
switched off) and it cost me $ 100 for several hours of tech repair to get
it back. The other has had its Firewall blown and cannot even contact our
ISP dialup at all - that is at the shop right now as I type. Both seem, by
timing and by error messages, to have BEEN CAUSED by Windows automatic
updates screwing up during the install, although both my ISP service-person
and my XP technician say they have never heard of this happening to anyone
else*.

Meanwhile my photo book of plants progresses, now with about 14,000 digital
photos to choose from. I love the 80 Gig external HD, (Maxtor, from Staples
$ 98) I carry it everywhere in my car when not at home. With 30 Gigs of
photos and graphics files, it is my insurance. I am about to buy another,
as well. What a bargain. It has rescued me from a virtual sea of CD's.

Cheers.

* I must say, though, this is the first real operating problem I have ever
had, after owning and/or working on about 30 Windows computers, and seems
quite a contrast with the only two Apple products I've bought: a Mac that
died and was replaced three times before it would work at all, requiring a
whole wasted week on my part, and an Ipod with HD which died 13 months
after purchase, just after the one year warrantee ran out. Cost? More to
repair than replace - it was the high end one, too.
