I live in a rural area 50mi SW of Portlan,OR. I recorded the frog chorus
on our property by stick a mic out the window. It came out great, but its
only mono since I'm using a AKG C1000 mic running into my home music studio
mixer.

I'd like record nature and found sounds as backing for some songs I'm
creating. But this would be an occasional need, so I don't want to spend a
lot. I've thought about getting a stereo mic which would work in my room
(I could get the frog chrous in stereo from there). But I lack a portable
recording capability.=20

I keep hoping for a price breakthrough in a portable recorder that would
provide CD-level quality. I've thought about an iRiver H-series, but I
think they only record in mp3. I don't mind getting a used one to save $.

any suggestions?=20
