David,
I suggest you find an audio DAT drive instead. The drives will read your
tapes in half the time you could do it using playback from a DAT machine.
The drives are available new and through ebay and it is even possible to
convert some DAT data drives to audio drives. This is not as cheap as
having someone give you a machine. But, if you strike out on that let me
know and I can steer you to an audio DAT solution.
