Rich's controversial jet analysis seemed to confirm your 
hole-in-the-middle findings. I liked the barrier array, but I too began 
to think that an angled barrier might be better -- perhaps two barriers 
hinged along one edge to allow the angle to vary. I haven't tried it, 
though.

Crown's literature has provided a lot of insight over the years, 
regardless of which mics I've been using at the time:
