Hello and Help!

We have lived here for three years and live in a forest. We hear many
sounds but this one is new and showed up about two weeks ago and is about
to drive us crazy. We live in Ontario Canada near the U.S.A. border. We
have many different trees but the main tree is white cedar. We have a pond
across the road and always enjoy the sounds of frogs of various types.
This sound starts as soon as the darkness is just descending on us. It
sounds like a duck but is not. It is high up in the tree and we can not see
it ( there are others calling in the back ground ) It is a repetitious
quank. quank, quank. Often it does a series of three but it does vary from
around 2 to 4 in a row. It continues all night and stops at the first sight
of day light! I have been searching like crazy to find out what this is.
Any help would be great.
Thank you ,thank you ,thank you in advance!
Dodi
