Subject: [Nature Recordists] What's That Sound? - Ohio along Lake Erie
"siren"

From: "Kathy McCafferty" <>

Help....I heard a strange sound last night and I haven't a clue what
it
was. I live in Ohio along Lake Erie. It was a cool night and the sound
occured around 1 A.M. I live very close to a large valley/park.
I thought at first I was hearing the last part of a police siren or
ambulance - starting high then sliding low in pitch, very far away but the
sound kept getting closer and closer until it was outside my window on the
ground (I think). It was very eerie
At first I thought maybe it was an injured cat or racoon, but I just
don't
think it was. It was unlike any sound I've ever heard. It broke into a
short 3-4 second chatter and then sirened again, starting high then sliding
low. After that I didn't hear it anymore.
We do have a red tail hawk in the neighborhood but I don't think
that's it.
