Hello Nature Recordists,
I am brand new to this group, and pretty new to recording, too. I'm a
senior at College of the Atlantic, in Bar Harbor, Maine, and I'm working
on a fall/winter/spring recording project of documenting the sounds of
Mount Desert Island, where I live. I'm using a Sony PCM-M1 DAT recorder,
which I just got off ebay a few weeks ago, and a cheap Sony stereo mic.
I definitely need a mic upgrade, but I like the PCM-M1. I'd be happy to
take suggestions for affordable, quality stereo mics for field
recording.
I started recording less than a year ago, but I've found that it's
something Im really interested in, and I enjoy it a lot! Today I woke up
at 4AM to go to Witch Hole Pond and record the sound of beavers slapping
their tails on the water in the early morning hours. I've also been
doing a bit of undercover recording lately, following the tourists
around town and recording the silly things they say. By the end of the
year, I hope to have a collection of sounds that represents the island
both for islanders and non-islanders.
Other interests: I am a musician and have been my whole life. For a few
years I've been playing fiddle in a bluegrass band out of Richmond,
Virginia. Our website is: www.specialedshortbus.com
I like exploring this beautiful island, most of which is a national
park, and for fun I like to wash dishes at the restaurant where I work.
Please let me know if you live around here or have experience in this
area, or if you know anyone who does -- I would love to talk to any
other sound recordists around here.
Aaron
