suggested speaker setup

I am in the process of purchasing a sony minidisk recording system for an 
ornithologist friend that works in South America. 

When in the field, what is the suggested speaker to use for playback - one that 
takes into consideration portability, weight, and ease of use.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
