The Sound Devices 722/744t looks like it could pass the "kick it down the stairs" test, with one caveat: Its small hard disc storage medium is more vulnerable to the indignities of field use than other media are. The 722/744 does give you the option to record to Compactflash instead of, or in addition to, the hard disc for this reason. The Sound Devices web pages indicate that their design includes extra protection for the hard disc, but Murphy's Law often finds a way to defeat good intentions. The 744t is supposed to be released this month, with the 722 following in September. I'm interested in a "raw" 722, sold without hard disc or battery, since I would use Compactflash and an external power supply that I already purchased. --oryoki ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
