What I've read lately leads me to believe that any audio file recorded
by a Hi-MD machine (through analog or digital inputs, in WAV or ATRAC
form) can only be accessed by Sony's SonicStage software. Sony hides
recordings inside a proprietary file format that is not visible to
your computer via the USB link. Only SonicStage can transfer these
recordings to your PC.=20

The reverse is also true. Only SonicStage can transfer an audio file
to the Hi-MD if you intend to play the file on the Hi-MD box.=20

This is all speculation at this point. We'll know more when the Hi-MD
machines are shipped.
