Great article, Rich. However, we've got CDs (many gold core) to which
we began backing up our archive with burns dating back to 1985. 600
or so are stored in relatively safe temp and humidity controlled
conditions and handled with care. So far, no noticable deterioration
that we can detect. And they're randomly checked every 6 months or
so. Having gone through the hydrotropic issues with audio tape of the
70s and 80s, we're really cautiously optimistic that the integrity of
the media will hold for a while longer...at least until a better
storage medium comes along.
