We invite you to join NSS for three fast-paced days of fieldwork,
lecture and discussion on some of your favorite topics! There is
still space available at the 20th annual Nature Sounds Society Field
Workshop, which is being held this year from Friday May 21 through
Sunday May 23 in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in the
Klamath Mountains near Redding, California. NSS is partnering with
the National Park Service and the Oakland Museum on the
theme "Surrounded by Sound."=20
Featured speakers this year as exciting as they are distinguished.=20
Lang Elliott, nature sound recordist, author and producer. Elliott
has produced nature CDs and sound guides for species identification,
notably the Stokes Field Guide to Birdsongs, Eastern Region, a 3-CD
reference guide to the songs and calls of 372 species published by
Time Warner Audiobooks. Sam Easterson, a videographer with many
exhibitions to his credit, whose work now focuses on capturing nature
from the perspective of animals and plants with sound and video.=20
Michael Stocker, an acoustician, musician and naturalist who
advocates on behalf of healthy ocean soundscapes. Dan Dugan, sound
engineer, speaking on the latest technology in field recording.=20
Additional workshop session leaders will include Rudy Trubitt, sound
engineer and recordist, and Arlyn Christopherson, master teacher and
former education director for the Oakland Zoo.
Workshop participants learn about nature sound recording and
technical equipment during daily sessions in the field with
experienced recordists. In keeping with the theme, technical sessions
will focus on 3D and surround arrays to build a more profound sense
of space to enhance the sound experience for listeners.
