Hi ---

I saw your recent post on the nature sound group...and it's prompted me
to write. I'm a radio producer for The World (daily radio program on
public radio) . The World is a co-production of the BBC World Service,
Public Radio International and WGBH, Boston. I produce a segment called
the geography quiz -- when we talk to people and/or listen to recordings
made around the world. We sort of throw a dart at the world map each
day. We focus exclusively outside US boundaries. So if you come back
from Siberia with good audio examples of wildlife/ birds etc that you
could talk about (the settings, the wildlife, the people, the place)
then I'd be interested in interviewing you and hearing more about your
views on the subject of natue sound. If interested, please feel free to
email me whenever you get a chance.

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Siberia

This June, if I manage to get myself through all the 'red tape', I'm
off on a recording trip to the Lena Delta in northern Siberia, the
domain of Ross's Gulls and lots of other fabulous birds. I was
wondering if anyone in the group has experience of bringing sound
recording equipment (in my case Telinga, SASS with Sennheisers, Tascam
DAT etc) into Russia and especially, getting it plus recorded media
back out again. I've been told that I need to have an official list of
equipment that can be checked, and that I need to be 'accredited' as a
sound recordist. To be honest I don't know exactly how to go about the
latter - via the consulate? Anybody have experience with Russia in this
respect, or able to put me in contact with someone who does?

best regards,

Magnus Robb
