Other things we are glad we have on "Bubba" our burb is a good winch and two
batteries separated by an isolator (both kept charged but only the main
battery discharges normally) The two batteries are much safer in the bush
and very handy even in town when the lights are left 8-) Of course some of
the areas we are in are not within walking distance of civilization and
often there is no cell phone coverage. The dual batteries also a lot of
fun. I left the lights on once and needed to jumper the thing (before I had
my granny button installed which does it from inside the cab). Some guys
offered to help jumper the beast but I thanked them and said I could handle
it. They laughed when the old granny got out only a single cable to jumper
it and were amazed when the thing started. I smiled and drove off. (both
batteries are grounded to the car) We can also keep the cooler, battery
chargers ect running and not worry about a dead battery when we get back to
Bubba.
Note: we are not "off roaders" but travel a lot on logging and oil/gas roads
which can be a BIG challenge if wet. Lots of the wood is hauled out the
winter when things are frozen. In the US your have paved logging roads
courtesy of your government (which does not subsidize the wood industry)
Here the logging companies are responsible for construction and maintenance
of the roads.
