Because of your use, the HX-3 probably is not the best choice.
You need to look for a unit that has automatic gain control.
You need an optocoupled device that will prevent you from getting
hearing losses when a loud unexpected sound comes in.
In recording we don't have as much of a risk because we are often
monitoring after the a/d converter and it will just distort when a
real loud sound hits. With direct monitoring of a parabolic you need
to find some protection.
Sorry I don't know a retail product as I would just build it.
