I once again am not at the expert level that some of the others here 
are in four channel.  

There is a long learning curve as the number of formats used and the 
hype of each is crazy to get through.

Basically if you are building your own composition and it has a 
single playback location you can choose any format you want.
DVD-A is not supported by all players but is uncompressed high 
resolve audio.
DVD-V is compressed but most anyone can play it back and you can just 
leave out the video.

If you were looking for a way to convert your 4 channels to a dvd 
disk that can easily play then there are a number of companies out 
there with the software to do that.
