Hi all,
I just discovered your group. It looks great.

I am planning to use the javax.comm api to write a
Java progam to read data from a piezo transducer on a
serial port on a laptop. The data will represent
voltages of signals in the frequency range of 1 Hz to
100 kHz.

What is the best and inexpensive way to connect a
piezo transducer (e.g., a hydrophone) to a laptop
(Win32)? Can I use the RCA mic jack, or the modem
port, or is a PCMCIA card requireed (e.g., from
National Instruments)? If a card is required, then
which one would you recommend?

Which hydrophone would you recommend?

When I complete the program I am planning to release it
with an open source license such as GPL, so you can
can all use it, and read the source code. Much of
the FFT and other signal processing is already completed at
http://leafy.dev.java.net/

thanks,
