September 30: The Soundscape of Modernity
Our September section meeting will be a joint one with the LA chapter of
the Acoustical Society of America. Our guest presenter will be Dr. Emily
Thompson. The meeting starts at 8 P.M. at the Sportsmen's Lodge, at
Coldwater Canyon and Ventura Blvd. in Studio City. More details are in
the attached newsletter.
As always, all interested persons are welcome, whether AES members or
not. (Although we always strongly encourage being a member!) If you'd
like to join us for dinner at 7 o'clock, you can save $5 off the $20
walk-in price by making a reservation with section treasurer Kahne
Krause
at least 2 days before the meeting.

October 28: Technical tour of NPR West
Our October meeting will be a technical tour of NPR's new Culver City
studio facilities at 9909 Jefferson Blvd. We will begin at 8 P.M.
Because of space constraints, we will be limited to about 85
participants. We will take reservations starting at noon, Pacific Time,

November 15: High-resolution audio workshop
Your AES LA section is putting together a day-long workshop to be held
Saturday, November 15, at the Beverly Garland hotel in North Hollywood.
Morning and afternoon sessions will include production, authoring,
mastering, DVD, SACD, Dolby, 96/24, and more. There will be demos and
vendor exhibits. Lunch will be included.
Presenters and prices will be announced sometime soon. Keep an eye on
