Sony MDs

Hi all,

I'm seriously considering a used Sony MD, there are quite a few of them
on eBay. While checking devices' specs on www.minidisc.org
<http://www.minidisc.org/>  I noticed that some models are stated to
have "75% the volume" of some other model. My question is- does it has
any meaning for recording, or only to playback?
