Hi Tanya,

I have taken my consumer minidisc (Sony MZR30) through X-ray machines in
Europe and the US. I have also taken the discs through many times. To
date I have not suffered any ill effect (neither have the discs or
machine ;-}).

I think that the likelihood of any negative impact is negligible. I have
also taken my laptop through many times without any upset.

As an aside, I have the US more sympathetic to hand-checking film than
in Europe. If you are concerned - you can always ask.

Regards,

Chris.

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Re: xray machines/minidisc

Hi all- I finally purchased a minidisc recorder and if I had the
time I would write a report on its performance, however at the
moment I have to prepare to leave for a trip to Amsterdam, where I
was considering recording the "nature sounds" of that city.

My question: is there anything I need to know about the effects of
xray machines on minidiscs and minidisc recorders? I hear mixed
reports about the effects on laptops, I myself havent noticed any
ill effect to my laptops. But it would suck mightily to find out
that minidiscs are vulnerable AFTER the fact.

Any precautions I need to take?

Thanks!
