I just caught a really fascinating television program which among other things documented the mating calls of the arizona jumping spider. The little beast makes sound by vibrating its abdomen and conducting the sound through its two upraised front legs -- the sound consisted of a number of short clicks followed by a low moaning sound. Truly amazing! An intrepid researcher captured the sounds by attaching a phonograph needle to the female, listening to the sound conducted through her legs. Anyone heard of this before? I never knew spiders made a peep........ Cliff ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
