Funny, I was just downloading one of Martyn's sounds and it plays
automagically in quicktime and I haven't been able to find yet how to
make it stop.

More and more I hate it when I spend more time in the care and feeding
of the computer than doing what I'm really trying to do! Slow
progression from EE to luddite, I fear.

I posted two ravens at telinga.com

Then:
May I take up this Real question again.

I posted "ravens" to my site as mp3. To check it, I clicked at the link.
A
Real audio program started and replayed the file as .mpga (or whatever).
It
sounded terrible!! A twisted frequency curve and broken and scratchy.

Then I right clicked at the link and took "save target". It downloaded
for a
few minutes and I planned to replay the file by my WaveLab.

But I got another .mpga file!! - which could only be replayed by the
Real
program, with a terrible result!
I had to rename the file to MP3 to make WaveLab replay it! Then it
turned
out okay.

I was really surprised, both that Real sounds so terribly bad, and that
Real
renames mp3 files into it's own format.

I wonder: How many people out there listen to the sounds we post with
useless programs like Real - without knowing how useless it is?? Files
which
we post because we like them, but which others cannot appreciate.

I know I did! When I downloaded Martyn's "Eagles & waterfowl" I got it
as
mpga and replayed it with Real.

I am very sorry, Martyn! I will never do it again, but I didn't know!
Now I
know better.

Another thing: Please don't forget to remove the cellophan from your DAT
tapes and MD's BEFORE you start the excursion! I lost more than five
minutes
of a very nice recording session last night, just because I didn't have
a
sharp object to remove the fu...
