Subject: [Nature Recordists] Sharp MT-831 Can't reada

I've had a Sharp MT-831 for about three years. It has been used in
various
rainforest locations and stored in a dry cabinet when not in use. After
a
couple of months of non-use, the battery is usually drained, so I
recharge
it before use. When I did this a couple of days ago, the unit displayed
Can't reada (not Can't read, but Can't reada) and has since refused to
play/record any of the minidisks I've recorded on it. As the quality of
the
recordings (via a Sennheiser ME66 shotgun mic) has been quite good (in a
non-scientifically evaluated sense), and it has the real convenience of
on
the fly manual adjustment of the digital recording level I would really
like
to get this operational again. Can anyone help? Has anyone any
experience
using the service mode in these units (would that help in this case)?

Thanks in advance

Horst
