I was interested to read from cmursic of the apparent ruggedness of the Rod=
e
NT4 for field recording. On paper, this mic would seem to have somewhat
better specifications than the Sony ECM MS957. (The 957 is a favoured
travelling mic for some UK recordists, who use it with a FEL mini pre-amp,
with good results.) I personally have a Sony ECM MS5 one-point stereo mic,
I've had it ages - it gives very good sound if you are close to your
subject. I see that the current list price of the MS5 is about 3 or 4 time=
s
that of the Rode NT4, yet the specifications of the Rode are better than th=
e
MS5.=20

I have yet to hear a side by side comparison of the Sony ECM MS957 and the
Rode NT4, but I reckon the Rode sounds like a pretty good deal, especially
with our first-hand report that it is rugged enough for field use.
