One word - PERMETHRIN. You spray a permethrin-containing compound o=
n a complete set of field clothing - socks, trousers, long-sleeved shirt, h=
at, gloves. When it dries it will be non-toxic for human skin contact, will=
*kill* mosquitos and will repel ticks, and will last through several cloth=
es washings as well. Some people like dipping the clothes in a permethrin b=
ath and some products claim weeks and weeks of coverage. I have not seen a =
difference in effectiveness between dipping and spraying, and I go on short=
 trips.
Before I started doing this method on tropical trips I got a lot of=
bites through clothing. No longer. One must still use human-safe skin appl=
ied chemicals (that is possibly an oxymoron, but whatever) for exposed skin=
, but it is also possible to be completely covered with gloves and a beekee=
per type hat. Spray them all.

BTW - nothing kills chiggers but tactical nuclear weapons, so keep =
your trousers tucked in to your socks and don't sit down......
