Hi all,

Could it be useful to use compressors when editing bird recordings?
Especially in recordings of birds which call in frequencies above 4000 hz, =
I
miss something there, the bird's call is not powerful enough, but I recorde=
d
it while it sat just 4 or 5 meters ago and on my minidisc recorder it's
strong enough while listening to it with headphones but after transfering i=
t
to computer, it seems not as powerful to me as it was before.
Normally, I edit the recording just by boosting frequencies in which the
bird calls and cutting away low ones. But with birds that call above 3000 o=
r
4000 hz, I dont't get the right results.

A friend told me to try editing it with a compressor but he hasn't
expiriences in editing bird sounds.
So, do you think that I would get better results when editing my recordings
with parametric EQ and compressor and if yes, where to download a nice
freeware compressor?

my best

Phil
