A minidisc knows where tracks start and stop based on its Table of
Contents (TOC). When you give the command "erase all," the
recordings are not touched. Instead, the TOC is deleted.

So you need to replace the empty TOC with a new one that tells the
minidisc player that the disc has just one recording, and it is the
entire length of the disc. That way your original material will not
be disturbed. You can then play the disk and transfer the recordings
onto a computer or second minidisc.

Sounds simple enough, but the procedure requires a minidisc deck that
can be placed into "test mode." And mucking around with a machine
in "test mode" is a good way to screw up its firmware. If I were in
your shoes, I'd advertise in a minidisc newsgroup like
alt.audio.minidisc for someone familiar with the procedure who could
help me for a fee.
