I just went and measured, instead of trying to do it from memory, should
have done that to start with. I was wrong about the distance. Front edge
of my dish is between 6 & 6 1/2" And my stereo mic is set with the tip
even with that plane right now, though I usually have the tip a slight
bit out. Your photos make the dish look flatter, which is why I reacted.
From the photos your mics look closer in than mine. Since I have
MKH-20's I could estimate how far out your's really were.

I worked mine out based on listening, it's fairly easy to tell. The
Perfect distance depends somewhat on just how far away things are. There
is a range of a inch or two. I have worked with the tip as far out as a
inch or so beyond the dish, and sometimes somewhat inside. Particularly
if working fairly close louder stuff I get better sound if I defocus
slightly.
Depending on just how far in the mic elements are in the foam I might
even have the actual mic elements closer than yours.
I think I must have confused the measurement with my 30" dish.
Comes from spending the evening digging the brushes out of my Ranger's
alternator, a very annoying task. Otherwise I'd be out on another frog
foray now. I'm delayed by a day on account of that. Small lump of carbon
not doing it's job suddenly.
